Columbus was a Genoese explorer, navigator and colonizer, born in the republic
of genoa. Under the auspices of the catholic monarchs or Spain he completed
four voyages across the Atlantic Ocean. Christopher Columbus was born in 1451
in genoa Italy and died May 20, 1506 in Valladolid, Spain. He was married to a
woman named Filipa Moniz Perestroelo they had two children Diego and Ferdinand Columbus.
Columbus was not the first
European explore to reach the Americans, his voyages
led to the first lasting European contact with the Americans inaugurating a
period of European exploration conquest and colonization that lasting for
several centuries. Therefore they had an enormous impact in the historical
development of the modern western world. Columbus himself saw his
accomplishments primarily in the light of spreading the Christian religion. Columbus
led his three ships the Nina the pinta and the Santa Maria –out of the Spanish port
of Palos on august 3, 1492. His objective was to sail west until he reached Asia
(the Indies) where the riches of gold pearls and spice awaited
reflection: Christopher Columbus had a really long journey.
